First Nations Engagement

We recognise First Nations peoples as the Traditional Owners and custodians of Country and will engage respectfully and proactively with Traditional Owner groups.

The Navigator North project is proposed on the land and waters of the Gunaikurnai people, and we recognise their connection to this Country for tens of thousands of years.

In 2008, Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) was appointed as the Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) responsible for cultural heritage clearance under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic). In 2010, the Federal Court also recognised that the Gunaikurnai people hold native title over much of Gippsland.
The GLaWAC have created a “Pathways to Partnership” for the renewable energy sector that will help ensure developments like the Navigator North project appropriately recognises the connection to country of the Gunaikurnai people.

We will continue to work with Gunaikurnai representatives to ensure our project is delivered in a manner that is respectful of these connections and that agreement making is consistent with the principles set down in “Pathways to Partnership”.
