The Project
Overview
The Navigator North project will comprise up to 110 wind turbines with an approximate capacity of 1.5 GW.
The project will be located off Victoria’s Gippsland coast, 34 km from the shore at its closest point near Golden and Paradise Beach, 38 km from Lakes Entrance and 48 km from Seaspray.
The project’s Feasibility Licence Area is 700 km2, however it is expected that the final turbine array will utilise approximately half of this area.
Project Highlights
1.5 GW of wind energy
Power the equivalent of up to 1M homes per year
Up to 110 turbines
200 ongoing jobs created
30+ years of operation
Project Location
The project will use a fixed bottom foundation, with the most suitable type determined during the project’s design stage and following a range of geophysical, geotechnical and environmental surveys.
The project will be connected to new transmission infrastructure to be developed by VicGrid, the Victorian Government agency responsible for coordinating the planning and development of Victoria’s Renewable Energy Zones and transmission infrastructure.
VicGrid has identified a study area for new transmission infrastructure that includes a new transmission line linking a connection hub near Giffard West to a grid connection point near Loy Yang Power Station.
It is estimated the Navigator North project will invest over $15 billon over a 40-year project lifecycle, which includes a 30-year operational term and create 2,700 temporary jobs across the design and construction phases and 120 jobs across the operations phase.
